Progress Meeting on Subnational Statistics - 7th November 2018

14 Present situation Requirements of the ESA 2010 Transmission Program - calculation and delivery of Gross Value Added data by industry A*10 and by NUTS 3 region 6 NUTS level 3 regions in Latvia This does not satisfy needs of domestic users Since 2015, the CSB calculates and publishes GVA also for 8 biggest cities, on experimental grounds One figure per city. Allocation by industry cannot be published due to confidentiality reason Progress Meeting on Subnational Statistics - 7th November 2018

15 8 Big cities of Latvia (population in 2018)

16 Problems Statistical analysis of the obtained results does not give full confidence that figures show correct picture on economic growth of the cities. Results become available 24 months after the reference year - too late. GVA Year Progress Meeting on Subnational Statistics – 7th November 2018 City

17 Challenge for the CSB To find what information would be:
the best for the assessment of socio-economic growth of the cities accessible in shorter terms giving more stable and reliable results These desirable variables can be taken from any data pool, not necessarily from macroeconomic statistics Progress Meeting on Subnational Statistics - 7th November 2018

18 Challenge and planned steps
The CSB, first, is looking for advice from other EU Member States - if one have experience in prompt assessment of socio-economic development of municipalities smaller than NUTS 3 level, please, let us know! Short mission of 2-3 experts to get acquainted with the methods and sources in use Procurement of external expert is planned to be held New experience will be used for definition of work for the contractor (expert) Progress Meeting on Subnational Statistics - 7th November 2018
