5. What is a Point-in-Time (PiT) Count?
A measure of the number of people experiencing homelessness on a specific day - “a snapshot”
Anonymous survey
Includes sheltered and unsheltered homelessness
Measures progress in ending homelessness
Uses volunteers to conduct the count & surveys
Data entered into HIFIS
Required by government of Canada every two years

6. What is a Registry Week?
A count and survey/assessment of people experiencing homelessness
Can be carried out over two to three days (in a week)
Purpose:
To assess the needs of people experiencing homelessness
To develop a local by-name list to prioritize people for housing interventions
Non-anonymized information increases urgency to house known people
List is regularly updated

7. Benefits of a Combined PiT Count & Registry Week
Increased awareness of homelessness
Enhanced understanding of who is experiencing homelessness in Simcoe County and its sub-regions, and what their needs are
Call to Action – prioritizes Simcoe County’s most vulnerable residents for:
Housing-based case management
Help to secure housing
Help maintaining housing
Rent subsidies
Collected information will:
Inform local policy and service delivery
Measure our progress in ending homelessness
