1 Preventive Maintenance

2 GOAL Prevent premature engine wear

3 Keep Engines Clean To keep cool, engine needs to be cleaned
Cooling Fins retain heat/seize if dirty Use compressed air or solvent to clean

4 Checking Oil Check each time fuel is added Use correct type of oil
Dipstick Filler plug Use correct type of oil Loss of oil could be caused by external leaks, worn oil seals, valve guides piston rings

5 Change every 10 – 50 hours based on manufacturers standards.
Oil becomes contaminated with dirt, soot, sludge, varnish, metal particles, water & gasoline

6 Changing Oil Steps Disconnect spark plug Remove drain plug
Drain oil- (warm oil drains more quickly) Replace drain plug Check filter Pour in oil CHECK LEVEL Replace spark plug

7 Mixing Oil & Fuel Pour part of gasoline into clean container Add oil
Shake Add remaining gasoline Shake Again

8 If mixture sits for an extended amount of time add a stabilizer.
Keep tanks full as possible to prevent condensation

9 CHECK THE EASIEST THINGS FIRST!!!!!

10 1. Carburetion Clean fresh fuel is being delivered in the correct proportion

11 2. Ignition System Strong ignition spark is timed correctly
Test Ignition

12 3. Compression Is engine getting 30-45 psi minimum for starting?
Needs 90 psi for operation

13 4. Adequate Lubrication Correct amount of oil is reaching critical engine components

14 5. Sufficient Cooling Cool air is reaching engine
