1 Approaching Others Show you CARE!

2 “What If” I did not speak up?
Research clearly shows that many serious injuries that have occurred in the past could have been prevented if someone had shown the courage or concern to approach another employee before the tragic event occurred.

3 What Holds You Back? Approaching others can cause anxiety when you fear rejection. Approaching others is meant to be a constructive dialogue - NOT a criticism.

4 What Holds You Back? Lack of confidence.
Fear of not meeting expectations. Fear of judgement. Uncertainty causes anxiety.

5 Approach Others One of the hardest things for most people to do is to come up to another person and start a conversation. But, when a conversation is started both people benefit.

6 Approach Others It is a short conversation that: Demonstrates care
Promotes individual responsibility Encourages intervention Highlights a potential exposure/hazard Recognizes safe behaviors Approaching Others Approaching Others is a method of expressing care through a short talk with another person on an exposure that can be reduced. It is better to approach someone to reduce an exposure than to regret not doing so if the exposure becomes an incident. Key Items for discussion: Explain reasons why you should approach others if you think there is an exposure Describe the consequences of approaching others How can you encourage others to approach others or be receptive to being approached

7 Approach Others Research also shows that these types of programs must be supported by project leadership - but driven by employees.
