have more and better information to help them make decisions and choices about their care and treatment
services shaped around their needs instead of being expected to fit the system

4. 6 initial priority areas for action
Give people a bigger say in how they are treated;
increase choice of access to a wider range of services in primary care, helping people to get access to health care on their own terms
increase choice of where, when and how to get medicines
enable people to book appointments at a time that suits them, from a choice of hospitals
widen choice of treatment and care, starting with choice in maternity services and greater choice over care at the end of life
ensure people have the right information, at the time, with the support that they need to use it.
