5 One Year Contract Students are obligated to remain in the program for one contractual year. This contract is initiated upon enrollment and renewed yearly in the early Spring.

6 One Year Contract Only in dire and reasonable circumstances can a contract be overturned. Examples: Move out of district Expulsion Appeals must be made in writing to the Magnet Office.

7 One Year Contract If the contract is broken, students…
May receive an “F” grade for classes not dropped at semester. Will NOT be able to transfer their athletic eligibility.

8 Academy Curriculum RHS’s four magnet programs follow specific course sequences Requirements of the RHS Academy programs are in accordance with the College and Career Ready requirements Course sequences and course descriptions can be found in the RHS Course Catalog located at

9 Academy Curriculum Students may not be enrolled in both the Aviation and Medical programs.

10 Academy Curriculum Students MAY NOT change programs once accepted.
Each program is allotted a certain number of seats. Students were turned away who wanted the seat you were given. Staffing and funding are based on this number.

11 Academy Curriculum Students MAY take electives in other programs provided… They are enrolled in an elective specific to their program. There is room in the class. It fits in their schedule. They meet the prerequisites for the “other” elective.

12 Four years MAGNET ELECTIVE
Magnet Certificate In order to receive a Magnet Certificate as well as a medallion, students must satisfactorily complete… Four years MATH Four years SCIENCE Four years MAGNET ELECTIVE

18 Academic Standards Students must… have GPA of 2.0 or higher.
A “C” average NOT fail ANY class. have a “C” or better in their magnet classes.

Behavioral Standards A student will be found in violation of Academy Behavioral Standards if they… Academic Dishonesty on Any Academic Work: Ex. Papers, Tests, Magnet Hours Have excessive absences and/or tardies Receive a “U” in Citizenship Get put on RPC or are suspended

20 Probation If at the end of any semester a student has deficits in any of the previously stated areas, they will be placed on PROBATION.

21 Probation Probation notices are sent out at the beginning of each semester (e.g. September & January)

22 Probation Students placed on probation will meet with the magnet coordinator. Probationary students and their parents must read and sign the probation letter and return it to the magnet office within 24 hours.

23 Probation Students will be given ONE semester to improve their grades and/or behavior.

24 Dismissals If a student continues to have deficits in ANY of the previously stated areas after the semester of probation, s/he will be subject to removal from the magnet program.

25 Fees: All fees are Due Sept. 6th
Lab Fees $40 This is your class fee for your magnet class. If you have more than one class you will need to pay the fee for each class. Uniform $40 Pre-Med: Scrubs Aviation: Polo Shirt *Any fee not paid by Sept. 6th will receive a fine notice. If you pay after Sept. 6th you must bring your receipt to Ms. Haas in the Magnet Office.

26 Uniform As uniforms and professional dress are often required in the medical and aviation fields, ALL magnet students are required to wear uniforms consistent with their programs. Uniform days are EVERY Monday & Tuesday (1st day of the week when you have your magnet class). Uniforms must be worn ALL DAY or employability skills grade may be affected.

27 Uniform ALL magnet students must wear their uniform EVERY Monday or Tuesday. Exceptions: Spirit Weeks and game days. Nothing is to be worn underneath the uniform that will detract from the appearance of the uniform. Students will be in COMPLETE uniform. Pants may not “sag” or be altered to make a skinny fit. Hair must be up and away from the face and be of a natural hair color and style. Students should look appropriate and professional. Uniforms must be clean, spot free, and in good repair. Students may wear a single post in each ear, a watch, one ring per finger, and a single strand necklace that does not interfere with activities or pose any hazards. Magnet pins are to be worn ABOVE the magnet logo. No excessive make-up, perfume, or aftershave may be worn. Nails must be natural and clean and no longer than ½ inch in length, with no extreme colors. Shoes must be closed-toe. Work flats- no boots or heels.

28 Community Service: WHY?
Service-learning: Improves character values and responsible behavior Improves academic outcomes for students Promotes a sense of connectedness to the school and the community Promotes social-emotional skills Promotes civic participation

29 Community Service Forging of Hours will result in a loss of the Magnet Certificate & Medallion Every magnet student is responsible for completing 10 community service hours per academic year. Hours must be documented on the Community Service Hours Log Sheet and turned into your magnet teacher by May 1, 2020. Form can be found at Pre-med students must include ALL of their log sheets in their Senior Capstone Portfolio At least 10 of the hours must be in the medical field There are countless opportunities for you to complete your community service hours either at RHS or in the greater community.

31 Media Release & Clause Each year students are asked to sign a media release form The media is often on campus. If a student has NOT provided a media release, it is their responsibility to notify members of the press. Students MAY NOT speak to ANY member of the media without the express approval of the Magnet Office
