1 Ovarian cancer BRCA testing protocol
Patient with invasive ovarian serous cancer Actions by approved Cancer Team member: Information sheet (MCG IS1) given to patient. BRCA gene testing discussed. Family history to be confirmed. Record test requested in notes Consent (MCG F1) obtained and filed in the notes. Blood (EDTA sample) and request form sent to lab requesting the report goes back to KMW Send standard letter to patient with copy to GP informing them that testing has been done Record patient details, date of test and person consenting on shared drive database. More discussion required Refer to Genetics Cancer Team 1. Results to be returned to Gynae Onc secretaries within 8 weeks 2. Secretaries to marry up report and notes and place in BRCA basket for action 3. Specialist nurses, consultants and subspecialist trainees who have been trained in BRCA testing can action results as per genetics protocol. 4. Actions to be entered onto database on shared drive. NO MUTATION MUTATION UNCLASSIFIED VARIANT Actions by requesting clinician: Result and information sheet (MCG IS2) sent to patient . Referral made to clinical genetics only by request if required, please especially consider those with a complex family history Actions by requesting clinician: Appointment made for KMW to give the result to the patient and letter sent to patient with the appointment Result and information sheet (MCG IS3) given to patient at appointment with KMW Referral faxed to clinical genetics with consent form Actions by requesting clinician: Appointment made for KMW to give the result to the patient and letter sent to patient with the appointment Result and information sheet (MCG IS4) given to patient at appointment with KMW. Referral faxed to clinical genetics with consent form MCG P2 v4 Reviewed: May 2019 Planned review: May 2021 Author CJS A clinical genetics appointment or telephone contact will be arranged within 4 weeks of receiving the referral. A 2nd blood sample will be required to confirm the result. A clinical genetics appointment or telephone contact will be arranged for within 12 weeks of receiving the referral Genetics Team

2 Please refer any patient to clinical genetics with: A personal history of 3 or more separate cancers (any) A personal history of 2 cancer including breast, ovarian, bowel, endometrial, stomach, thyroid, sarcoma, brain, leukaemia, adrenocortical cancers A personal history of breast cancer diagnosed under the age of 30 A personal history of mucinous ovarian cancer and bowel/endometrial cancer A person history of breast, ovarian or bowel cancer with a family history of 2 or more other family members being diagnosed with breast (<70yrs), ovarian, bowel (<70yrs), endometrial, stomach, thyroid, sarcoma, brain, leukaemia, adrenocortical cancers Please include in the referral the family history and any histopathology results. This is not an exhaustive list.
