1 Meditation Key Question. What is meditation? Lesson Outcomes;
To have explained the different types of meditation. To have reflected on the importance of meditation. To have evaluated the effect of meditation.

2 The Different Types of Meditation.
Samatha Meditation. The aim is to focus on one thing in order to calm the mind and understand spiritual truths. Metta Bhavana. The aim is to get rid of negative thoughts and focus on loving kindness (compassion). Vipassana Meditation. The aim is to acieve true insight into the true nature of things – that life is suffering, impermanent and ever-changing.

3 Meditation Meditation Experiences.
Read accounts of meditation experiences. Complete a table outlining when the people in question meditate and the benefits they feel. List some of the different objects often used in meditation. Find some pictures of these items, label them and stick them into your exercise book (you could draw them if you wish). Why do some people find it difficult to meditate? Make up an acrostic poem using the word meditation. Focus on the benefits of meditation in your poem. Make up a fact sheet about meditation. Include at least ten interesting facts for people who know nothing about meditation.

4 Meditation Review and Reflect;
Draw on outline of a lotus flower and in the petals note down some of the key aspects you have learnt about meditation. 2. Explain the nature and purpose of meditation in the Eightfold Path. This could be an 8 mark exam question on this topic. Note down 4 bullet points on the nature of Meditation and 4 on the purpose of meditation in Buddhism.
