3 Separatists want to leave the church completely and flee persecution
Pilgrims first flee to Holland then to America Plymouth Colony – 2nd permanent English colony Came over as families – not typical

4 Massachusetts Bay Colony – led by John Winthrop – names Boston as its capital
Included puritans and non-puritans Had to include many towns b/c so many people coming over Plymouth eventually became part of the colony Right to vote belongs to any man in the Puritan church, not just land owners Vote members onto the General Court, who then chooses the governor Close relationship between church and the government

Colonists form an alliance w/ Peqouts enemy, the Narragansett Colonists surround Pequot fort and massacre almost everyone in the fort

10 King Philip’s War B/C Natives no longer had land, they worked for the English Had to obey Puritan laws that went against their own laws Wampanoag chief Metacom (Eng. Called him King Philip) Organized his tribe and others to fight the English, 1675 Hit & run tactics Natives gradually surrender b/c food shortages, disease & heavy causalities Metacom is one of the casualties & Colonists exhibit his head for 20 years
