(2008) suggests that GSK-3 supports the maintenance of MLL leukemia cells by promoting continuous degradation of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p27Kip1. Various strategies to inactivate GSK-3 result in stabilization of p27Kip1, which invokes subsequent growth arrest in MLL but not non-MLL leukemic or normal cells.
