IEEE 5G Goals Build a vibrant 5G community
Identify standardization opportunities and standardization gaps related to 5G Develop 5G products: Conferences, Publications, Education, Training, Testbeds Leverage IEEE’s value and platform for 5G industry-wide consensus development Facilitate the development of 5G technical architectures Develop the future roadmap Lead and facilitate the 5G Technical Community

The IEEE 5G Roadmap Project
Four areas are identified as priorities: Standardization Building Blocks Millimetre Wave Mobile Edge Cloud Massive MIMO Other potential topics: NFV Applications Services Security

Mission of the IEEE 5G Roadmap
Identify short/mid/long-term research, innovation and technology trends in the communications ecosystem. Enabling the development of a concrete innovation and engagement roadmap guiding the IEEE community towards maximum impact contributions across its societies, and in conjunction with its demand-side as well as the wider industry & standards ecosystem.

Standardization Building Blocks
Lead: Paul Nikolich Compile standards projects that relate to 5G Roadmap will capture scope, purpose, and market potential, starting with 802 Standards will be grouped by application: Enhanced mobile broadband Massive machine type communications Ultra-reliable and low latency communications Data will be incorporated into Roadmap live document (updated annually and be developed in conjunction with the other working groups)
