1 Warm Up: Paragraph Revision!
Here’s a paragraph that needs help. In your groups, discuss what’s wrong with this paragraph.

2 Paragraph Revision Part Two
In your writer’s notebook, write a revised version of the paragraph. Then, we’ll discuss it as class and look at some of your revisions on the document camera.

3 Today’s Persuasive Reading: Can America handle the truth on race?
Read the article on your own. Answer the guiding questions on the side. We will discuss the article as a class.

Paraphrase - What is the author’s thesis/ controlling idea) and what reasons do they give for their opinion? Observe- What evidence does the author give to support their argument? What words /phrases seem important? Contextualize - What is the historical, social, literary, biographical, and/or cultural context? Analyze - Make inferences about your observation and the context of the piece. What is the purpose? Argue

5 “History Lesson” First Reading
* Use a star for significant information, devices, and strategies you notice. ! Use an exclamation point to indicate what you feel strongly about. ? Use a question mark next for parts that are confusing or next to any information that you’d like to explore further.

6 History Lesson second reading
F Figurative language. Look for similes, metaphors, personification, etc… I Imagery. What are the main images of the poem? What can you infer based on these images? D Diction. What do you notice about the word choice in the poem?

7 PITT Poetry Analysis In your groups, compare your markings.
Then fill in your PITT graphic organizer. Be prepared to share with the class.

8 Reading comprehension & Short Answer question (Exit Ticket)
Silently and on your own, answer the reading comprehension questions. Bubble in your GradeCam and write your multiple choice answers on a separate sheet of paper so we can kahoot! Yes, you have to do the short answer. When you’re finished, hand in your sheet, grab your phone and go to kahoot.it

9 Homework- 50 Most inspirational People
Go to this website: people (I will tweet this website and post it on my site) And choose a person to research. Do some research and then Write at least six sentences about this person. Discuss specifically what they did, where, and when their activism occurred, etc.. Also, explain WHY their actions are important.
