2013 / 2014

2 How is the health of our District ?
Lots of Rotarians working together Lots of funds being raised Lots of communities being helped Lots of committed, caring leadership

3 District is Short 96 Rotarians this year
What about our numbers? Net 3% (58): members Pledged (142): 2093 June 30, 2008: 2137 members June 30, 2012: 1951 Mar 31, 2013: 1913 TREND? DECLINING District is Short 96 Rotarians this year to reach our RI goal

4 Where is Membership Declining?
Congratulations to the 17 clubs which have increased and 15 which have maintained their numbers BUT 29 have reduced in size

5 What is going right? Rotarians are: Taking on a role in the club
Saying yes, I can help Inviting potential new Rotarians to meeting Celebrating activity through media Involving partners and families regularly Appreciating each other’s contribution Participating in the greater Rotary world

6 What are the challenges?
Work and family commitments Competition from other service commitments Business focus vs. Service focus Burn out of long-tenured Rotarians Young family, dual-income, time-deprived Absent snow bird retirees Dine and Dash attendance

7 What is the right strategy?
Make Membership our focus Ensure an active committee Pay attention to Attraction Pay attention to Retention

8 Size Matters! Many differences such as Approach Activity level
Numbers of committees Workload Rotation of leadership Annual funds contributed Internal communication

9 What is your Club Size? Small: Under 20 (18 clubs)
Medium: 20 to 39 (31 clubs) Large: 40 to 69 (9 clubs) Super Sized: 70 and up (3 clubs) Perhaps, find a buddy club and do some brainstorming or trade some good ideas!

If Rotarians are taking care of the community, who is taking care of the Rotarians? The Membership Committee! Every Club needs an active one!

14 Care for Our Rotarians We need to take care of our existing Rotarians
to keep them to attract new ones How? Value them! Ask their opinion Invite their involvement Get to know them personally Find their passion Have fun together Repeat mini classification speeches of long-term members Ask them to invite a non-Rotarian to check us out

15 Ensure Membership Does not Decline
Clubs must develop a real, working membership committee so there is focus analyze how you are doing with the care and keeping of your members take action to improve the member experience Members must take ownership of their own Rotary Journey share the magic of Rotary

.....How you apply it is up to you! All clubs are unique All Rotarians are unique Survey your club about how they would like to grow....and get at it!

19 How to get started Establish a Membership Committee
Determine your club’s need Decide on a couple action steps Meet regularly to monitor progress Share your progress with the whole club Enlist the help of your area representative Take advantage of the number of resources available on the District website (such as the Membership Path document)
