2. Location
Although the location is unknown, it is thought to be somewhere private to the killer, considering the room he is in is filled with questionable things such as the many scrapbooks and diaries
Secret locations/hideouts are typical of the genre as it makes the audience ask questions about the location.
The location represents the character as the strange, secluded person he is well.

3. Lighting and Colour
The lighting is generally dark throughout, obviously symbolising the character’s dark and evil nature.
A change of lighting, using low level artificial light, as opposed to the low level natural light previously used throughout the opening title sequence.
Flashes of red are also prevalent in the opening, symbolising evil and blood.

4. Costume
The clothes of the killer aren’t actually seen in the opening title sequence, only his hands are seen.
His dirty hands and fingernails suggests his lack of care for how he looks and what other people think of him. It also suggests he has been working hard to get what he wants.
He has bandages on his fingers, probably for cutting the skin off for the purpose of not allowing people to find him via biometrics, suggesting his premeditation, sophistication and organisation for these killings.

5. Props
The props used in the opening title sequence include pens, paper, books, pictures and a razor blade.
The razor blade is typical as it is a sharp object that often is used violently.
The use of the non-stop, relatively unstructured and messy writing and suggests the killer’s insanity, also suggesting he plans meticulously.

6. Acting/performance
Although there isn’t a huge amount of acting going on, the killer does seem calm throughout the opening title sequence.
There is also no dialogue to judge his character on.
His calm behaviour while doing things like cutting the skin from his fingers suggests how strange the character is.
