“Every news outlet followed by repeating the lie….over and over again in the hopes that stupid people will be outraged.” I am so hungry I could eat a horse. I had a ton of chores to do.

Rhetorical Definition
A statement that says something IS something When reading an article and the paper says, “Seniors are lazy.”

Rhetorical Explanation
Explains or supports the definition Seniors have the lowest homework grade of all grade levels.

Rhetorical Analogy Compares two things to prove point
Usually uses a simile or metaphor. Seniors move as fast a snail when it comes to homework. (Simile) Seniors are slugs.

Truth Surrogate A statement that is spoken as if it is truth
“It is evident that…..”

Sound Bites Words taken out of someone else’s speech or discussion to fit someone’s agenda.

Downplayers Using words or punctuation to make something less credible or demean the subject The “so called” doctor said she is cured, but she died an hour later. The little authority held by the police is used against the public by many.

Euphemism Making something sound not as bad as it is.
“A little nick in the bumper.”

Loaded words Words that try to make the reader have a reaction
Bias words “Those who work in the “news” industry are obsessed with promoting lies and half-truths to destroy political candidates they do not like, instead of just doing their jobs and reporting the news.”

Agenda Having a specific plan or side that is to be pushed through the media Usually relates to liberal and conservative and/or Democratic and Republican Where is the money coming from?

Right Wing Conservative- having strict values, morals and traditions Pro-life Man-Woman =Marriage For death penalty Often related to the Republican party
