Trial design. At all visits, pulse, blood pressure, and predose pulmonary function test results (determined by means of spirometry) were measured. Patients measured PEF and FEV1 each morning and evening with an electronic peak flowmeter and recorded asthma symptoms and rescue medication use in an electronic diary (5-point rating scale from 1 = no impairment to 5 = greatest impairment).
