1 Basic Stats, Motion and Moons
Mars Basic Stats, Motion and Moons

2 Martian Statistics Radius: 3398 km (53.3% of Earth’s)
Mass: .107 of Earth Masses (6.42 x 10^23 kg) Density: 3.94 g/cm³ ( 71.3 % of Earth’s) Surface Gravity: 3.69 m/s² (37.6 % of Earth’s) Orbit and Rotation Radius (ave.): 228,000,000 km or 1.54 AU Period (Year): 687 Earth Days (1.88 Earth Years) Day, Sidereal: hours, Solar: hours Axial Tilt: 23.98º (Earth’s: 23.45°) Name Origin: Roman God of War

3 Atmosphere and Seasons
The Martian Atmosphere is very thin Surface Pressure is only .007 of Earths Composition: 95% Carbon Dioxide, 2.7% Nitrogen, 1.6 % Argon, Like Venus only much thinner! Temperature (Approximate): Max: 287ºK (57 ºF) Min: 186ºK (-122ºF) Mars has: A blue sky High thin Water Ice and Dry Ice clouds, Great world wide dust Storms Seasons like Earth, but about twice as long. Mars is like our colder, dryer little brother

4 Interior Structure and Magnetic Field
Mars probably has a structure much like Earth’s Crust, Mantle and Core…but cooler: We know this because it has no planetary magnetic field and so its core is no-longer liquid. It is Cooler because it is smaller and has lost its internal heat The presence of Volcanoes indicates an active crust… At least in the past There is evidence of Plate Tectonics but … The survival of many craters means any recent activity is minimal.

5 Moons Mars has two small moons of irregular shape. Phobos (Fear)
13 x 11 x 9 km And Deimos (Panic) 8 x 6 x 5 km Both are likely captured asteriods.
