1 Fig. 4. Representative Western blots for phospholamban, Na+/Ca2+ exchanger, sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum calcium- ATPase (SERCA2), and dihydropyridine receptor-α2 (DHP) receptor (L-type calcium channel) for two sedentary normotensive, two sedentary SHR, and two daily exercise SHR. In addition, the quantified relative expression (means ± SE) for each protein of interest in sedentary normotensive (n = 8), sedentary SHR (n = 7), and daily exercise SHR (n = 7) is presented. Sedentary SHR had significantly decreased phospholamban protein expression (−34%), whereas Na+/Ca2+ exchanger protein expression was significantly increased (47%). Daily exercise normalized the protein expression of phospholamban and decreased the protein expression of the Na+/Ca2+ exchanger in the hypertensive rats. *P < 0.05, sedentary normotensive vs. sedentary hypertensive or daily exercise hypertensive; #P < 0.05, sedentary hypertensive vs. daily exercise hypertensive.
