a. By _1763_ Britain controlled almost all of North America. b. Fighting between _settlers_ and Native Americans was _beginning___. i. Britain wanted to _avoid_ further wars with Native Americans on the Frontier and issued the _Proclamation__ of 1763.

3 1. It _banned__ colonial settlements west of the _Appalachian__ mountains. 2. This _angered_ colonists who believed they should live wherever they wanted 3. They largely _ignored_ the proclamation.

4 c. The colonists had helped _Britain___ a lot in the French/ Indian war. i. They thought _Britain__ would repay their help by not raising taxes for the _colonies__.

5 ii. In 1763 most __Colonists__ were still loyal to the _British___ government They colonists themselves were not _divided_; but they did start disagreeing more with Britain.

f. Some of the colonies organized a _boycott_. They _refused_ to buy British goods. i. The protests worked and in 1766 _Parliament__ repealed the Stamp Act. ii. Unfortunately though, they passed the _Declaratory Act which said Parliament had _total_ authority over the colonies.

9 a. The Townshend acts of 1767 said that _Britain__ couldn’t tax goods inside the colonies only those brought into (imported) the colonies. i. The colonial boycotts hurt British merchants and all import taxes were ended except for the one on _Tea__. ii. In March 1770, in __Boston___, an angry crowd surrounded soldiers and threw snowballs and rocks. The soldiers __Fired___ shots and killed 5 people. This event is known as the Boston __Massacre_.

10 The Colonist Samuel _Adams__ started the Committee of correspondence which kept colonists informed on the __British__ government and when they tried to enforce unpopular acts the colonists would know.
