2 Resurrection The bedrock of Christianity
Either we believe: 1 Cor 15:1-11 In (eternal) life after an earthly death. That Jesus rose from the dead (for our sins). Those “in Christ” will enjoy an eternal resurrected life. Or, we don’t.

3 “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.” 1 Corinthians 15:19

4 Previously We looked at Old Testament allusions to baptism and the beautiful imagery portrayed in the New Testament. We looked at the meaningful imagery being “crucified” with Christ.

5 We now focus on the significance of “newness of life”

6 A walk directly contrasted from the (old) man of sin
The old man walked according to the flesh but the new according to God’s spirit. Gal. 5:16-24 This walk comes from a transformed mind (Rom 12:1-2) from death to life. Cp. Rom. 8:1-14

7 A new walk patterned after Jesus’
Who lived to the good pleasure of our heavenly Father. Matt 3:13-17 Who graciously loved His neighbors. Matt 14:13-21 Who sacrificed His will for God’s. Luk 22:42

8 What this life looks like…
Toward those in this world: As “God so loved the world” so will we… in the likeness of Christ. That is why mature Christians have this reputation. 1 Tim 3:7 Toward fellow Christians. Do not slander one another. Jas 4:11-12 Instead, love one another. Jn 13:14, 34-35 It looks like a “newness of life” walk!

9 Our baptism and “newness of life”
Our being buried with Christ “through baptism into death” signifies our commitment to put our old man of sin to death. Likewise, our resurrection from the watery grave signifies our commitment to being “raised to walk in newness of life”… in the likeness of our Savior. Romans 6:3-11
