1 Travel Brochures for heading west!

2 Directions/Instructions – 15 Points
Pick one of the destinations/trails settlers/pioneers traveled from notes and handouts on Monday and Tuesday. Utah, Colorado, Texas, Oregon, California, New Mexico, Nevada. Using Microsoft Publisher, create a travel brochure advertising one of the trails/destinations. Include reasons to head west, and be sure to have the right reasons with the correct location. Maps, pictures and other propaganda are required! Testimonials are a plus! You have this period to work on this assignment. Print when you are finished. Due Tuesday.

3 Or…build a wagon! – 30 points
(A)10 Points. Cut out a wagon bed from brown paper. Cut slits (as shown). Fold the sides up and glue. Cut out a top for the wagon from white paper. If you’re daring, use the pipe cleaners (or some other wire-like product) and cloth to construct a top. Note: you might need a heavier wagon base (cardboard) to do this. Cut our four wagon wheels from lightweight cardboard. Color with marking pens or paint. Glue to the sides of the wagon base. If you want moveable wheels, you can use brads to fasten wheels to the wagon, inserting the brads through the wheel’s center and the wagon.

4 To create a wagon seat, cut a brown paper rectangle and fold
To create a wagon seat, cut a brown paper rectangle and fold. Glue in place. Punch two holes in the front of the wagon bed and insert yarn. Decorate the wagon with barrels made from rolls of paper, yearn ropes, and written messages like “California or Bust!” Paper people and mules can be colored and cut out of construction paper or lightweight white cardboard.
