Hagar plans to go to Shadow Point using her last pension cheque.( She has to steal from Marvin.
Reaches Shadow Point exhausted, but without water.
Falls asleep in an abandoned house - dirty, few furnishings.

3. Plot 2
hagar leaves Bram and Manawaka with 12 year old John - no resistance from Bram
Ironically - gets a job as a housekeeper
John makes up imaginary friends and tells his mother about them.
John tells everyone that Mr. Oatley is his uncle so he can’t bring any friends home
-thus his mother never meets them.
she suspects John befriends wild care free young people who drink.
