STPs in the 21st century EU Science and Technology Parks (STPs) can be portrayed as: economic development programmes of cities & regions important part of innovation ecosystems serving knowledge-based SMEs & start-ups attracting foreign direct investment via high tech companies

Overview ~ 400 known EU parks
~ 30 million square metres of completed buildings ~ 40,000 companies (30 % startups) ~ 760,000 employees (~ 50 % new jobs since 2000 created) ~€11.7 billion invest in buildings (2000 – 2012) ~€300 million pa in professional business support ~€1.6 billion ERDF investing in STP buildings and ~€0.5 billion in support of STP clients (2000 – 2012)
