4 600 Series Method QC Project Study Update

5 600 Series Validation - Timeline
September 2017 – Publish new 600 series methods January 2018 – Organizations formed a partnership and contacted EPA to extend offer of support Spring 2018 – Survey to determine interest Fall Met with APHL, TNI, WEF, EPA representatives Winter Drafted initial validation study plan March Meeting with team March Drafted version 2

6 600 Series Validation - Timeline
March 2019 – Version 2 is complete Goal: The primary goal of this study is to collect Quality Control (QC) data for the priority pollutant analytes in Table 1 of Methods and and Tables 1 and 2 of Method 625.1, including Method Detection Limit (MDL) from blanks and spikes % Relative Standard deviation (RSD), % error, or % Relative Standard Error (RSE) for the initial calibration % error for Continuing Calibration Verification Results from the Initial Demonstration of Capability (DOC) study Results from Method Blanks Recoveries of Laboratory Control Samples (LCS), including Surrogates Note: Some priority pollutant analytes in Table 2 of Method (e.g., PCBs, chlordane) will also be included in this effort.

7 600 Series Validation - Timeline
Looking to collect six months of QC data from at least 20 labs for each method Goal: QC Data Type Data Requested Method Detection Limit (MDL) spikes Results from initial study and all quarterly spikes since the methods were implemented. Initial Calibration Six months of data. Continuing Calibration Verification Initial Demonstration of Capability (DOC) Results from initial study. Method Blanks Laboratory Control Samples (LCS) Surrogates Matrix Spike (MS) and Matrix Spike Duplicate Field Duplicates (FD)

8 600 Series Validation - Timeline
Specific EDD for reporting Attestation instead of SOP

9 TNI WINTER MEETING 2019

10 TNI 2016 Standard Implementation January 2020 Florida – April 2019
Calibration Guidance – V1M4 LOD/LOQ Guidance – In review PT – PTRL Reporting Mentor Session – Internal Auditing Assessment Forum – 4.6 Procurement: Purchasing Services and Supplies

11 Review/Update of ESS Objectives & ESS Survey Results

12 Survey Identified 8 Major Areas of Interest w/ Examples
Asked participants to rank 1 – 5, with 1 being highest priority Asked for potential volunteer leaders to champion discussions for the topics Goal of discussions - to come up with specific steps that ACIL might be able to take to help the laboratories address the issue
