2 Top  Blue = North The economy in the northern part of the United States was industrialized. Industrialized = economy based on factories and businesses.

3 Bottom  Grey = South The South’s economy was agricultural
and relied on slave labor. Agricultural = economy based on farming

4 Top  Blue = North Northern states wanted the new states created out of the western frontier (territory) to be “free states.” Free state = state where slavery was illegal

5 Bottom  Grey = South The Southern states wanted the new states added from the territories to be “slave states.” Slave state = state where slavery was legal

6 Top  Blue = North Northern states wanted a strong central government, where the Congress in Washington, DC had more power in making laws than the states.

7 Bottom  Grey = South The Southern states wanted a weaker central government, so that the states could have more power and the states’ rights to make their own laws without Washington, DC telling them what to do.
