5 Playing Scales and Chords in the Circle of 5ths
By playing scales in the circle of 5ths you will be able to really learn the positions and just where the notes are. Much better than doing the chromatic scale up and down the fingerboard. Will start with the blues scale off of the E form of CAGED

6 Root is on the 6th string You could keep going but on many of your
guitars this is as high as is practical. This is based off of the E form of CAGED!! Note how the fingering changes but not the root. Fret Name F F#/Gb G Ab/G# A Bb/A# B C C#/Db D Eb/D# E F

7 For this start on F and work Counter-clockwise
F, Bb, Eb, Ab etc.

8 2 3 4 E Form (G Major Chord)

9 Now do the E form of the chord starting on G –
G, C, F, Bb etc. still counter-clockwise – for F do the 1st fret

10 G Major E Form

11 Now do the E form of the scale starting on G –
G, C, F, Bb etc. still counter-clockwise – for F do the 13st fret

12 Can also do circle in a particular key
See the next slide for the key of C
