MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS IN REGIONAL STATISTICS

2. Major developments
The next population and housing census in Croatia will be held in April, The reference date will be 31st of December The census law has been adopted but the preparatory work for the census is still going on.
Regional statistics – In last few years CBS redesigned the system of dissemination and this also affected regional statistics. CBS will try to make more online publications because now they are mostly paper based.

3. Major developments – II.
Registers – The next Census will be the base for making Register of population. There is a working group formed to deal with this matter. CBS also plans to make a new application Register of spatial units.
Local statistics – The nomenclature and basic statistics for local administrative units (LAU) are needed for the regional policy, the competition policy, agricultural policy and other policies of the EU. There is a strong link to geographical information as in GISCO for various purposes, like spatial analysis and functional regions. Data from the census of Population and Housing or similar data from registers are transmitted to Eurostat every 10 years according to a census table program.
