Easier than writing but effective language still needs to be chosen carefully Still need to plan what to say, just as you would plan what to write ie in a suitable order Benefit is that you can change your approach if necessary ie facial expressions, tone, volume, etc. 14/08/2019 Kathy Thornett

Support message with important facts etc Identify key facts Arrange points in suitable order Choose appropriate style Monitor feedback eg facial expressions Know when you have said enough, ending on a positive note 14/08/2019 Kathy Thornett

7 ORAL COMMUNICATION LISTENING SKILLS A skill that needs to be practised
and taken as seriously as speaking. Effective managers and leaders often try to acquire good listening skills. Avoid pre-judgement and be open minded Extract main points – make notes Give feedback – just nodding or smiling and be alert to make a suitable remark. 14/08/2019 Kathy Thornett

8 ORAL COMMUNICATION LISTENING SKILLS – Remember Prepare to listen
Avoid pre-judgement or jump to conclusions Be open minded – hear what is said not what you would like to hear Establish eye contact Watch for signals – gestures, etc Extract main points Make notes – important conversations should be recorded. 14/08/2019 Kathy Thornett
