Holy Bible Truly, this only I have found: that God made man upright, but they have sought out many schemes. The more time that passes, the more “schemes” man invents to please himself…“schemes” that may actually violate God’s will. Eccl 7:29

When confronted by others after certain behaviors have been exhibited, some are heard to say, “Show me where God says I shouldn’t do that!” If no specific passage can be cited, they usually feel somewhat justified about what they’ve done. No matter how many “concerned brethren” approach them, they will continue to do what troubles others.

We know God has not, nor cannot, specifically “catalog” every sin man may commit that violates His revealed will. Yet, we also know the Scripture equips and enables us to practice His will in everyday living.

Holy Bible All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3:16-17

What are we to do when either we face a situation not specifically addressed in the Scripture, or we approach others who are in such situations?

consider just 2 passages.
A good “litmus test”… consider just 2 passages.

Gal 5:19-21 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.

Is the activity in question more like the things listed in Gal 5:19-21…

…or is it more like the things I’m supposed to meditate on
…or is it more like the things I’m supposed to meditate on listed in Phil 4:8?

One who is truly “seeking first the kingdom of God” will always consider the will of his Father before deciding whether or not to do something… especially if God has not specifically mentioned it in His word. Re: those things God has not specifically mentioned, using these 2 passages and applying common sense will keep us in good standing.

We all need to pray for wisdom & patience in learning how to better apply the word of God to everyday situations. We’re grateful for another opportunity to assemble this morning and worship our Creator & Savior. May our worship glorify Him, and strengthen us to serve Him faithfully in the coming week.
