1 The Danger of Anger Ephesians 4:26,27

2 The Danger of Anger James 1:19,20 This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. Genesis 4:6,7 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.” Ephesians 4:26,27 Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.

3 The Danger of Anger Proverbs 14:17 A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, and a man of evil devices is hated. Proverbs 29:22 An angry man stirs up strife, and a hot-tempered man abounds in transgression.

4 Anger can cause us to "blow up."
Proverbs 29:11,20 A fool always loses his temper, but a wise man holds it back. Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

5 Anger can cause us to "blow up."
James 3:9,10 With it [our mouth] we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way.

6 Anger can cause us to "clam up."
Ecclesiastes 7:9 Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, for anger resides in the bosom of fools. Proverbs 4:23 Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.

7 Anger can cause us to "clam up."
Ephesians 4:31,32 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

8 What is the root cause of temper?
Galatians 5:19-26 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.

9 What is the root cause of temper?
SELF Temper is produced by self! Luke 9:23 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.

10 Our Attitude toward those who wrong us
Luke 23:34 But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”

11 Our Attitude toward those who wrong us
Hebrews 12:14-15 Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled.

12 Conclusion: Luke 6:27,28 “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Ephesians 4:29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.

13 Conclusion: Is there someone you have harmed in anger?
Are there sins against others you need to make right? Are there known errors that you need to make right? Have you done what you should to be forgiven of your sins?
