3. This is the Swedish Research Council
The Council has a leading role in supporting research of the highest scientific quality in all areas of science, thereby contributing to the development of society.
In addition to supporting research, the Council also provides advice to the Government in matters concerning research.
An agency within the Ministry of Education and Research.
Our existence is prescribed by legislation (the Swedish Research Council Act from 2000).

4. Our missions
Funding research: The Council is the largest public funding body for research at Swedish universities and higher education institutions. The annual budget is 6 billion SEK to research in all disciplines.
Funding research infrastructure: In order to give the best conditions for Swedish research, we fund national as well as international research infrastructure.
Research communication: We coordinater communication on research and research results, as well as fund different activities and projects on this topic.
Analysis, evaluation and surveys: We analyse and monitor the research system and provide research policy advice to the Government.

16. News and changes (when applying)
Gender aspects – motivate if relevant for the project (pilot, based on new assignment from Government)
Data management plan for generated data – must be in place when research starts (not to be submitted)
Publication list – as of 2018 shorter (5 pages for PI, 1 page for participants) and asked to list and motivate the 10 most relevant
International partnership calls (JPI, ERA-Nets) – parallell application to VR from Swedish PI is mandatory

17. Some advice Allow for sufficient time - don’t procrastinate
Check application for any insufficient/missing contents well before deadline
Call closes at 2.00 pm, not 2.01 pm
Address questions to the right recipient:
Read and follow instructions
Application procedure – contact persons in call instructions
including how your application will be evaluated

Some pointers, I will be upfront. By priority order. The call closes at 2 pm, extremely few exceptions. Welcome to apply next year.
Read first, then ask. We don’t mind answering, but in most cases the answer is in the call text and you can save yourself the time by reading it first. Respect limitations. 8 pages research plan means 10 pages are not allowed. A shame to not be able to register because of this.
How to write a successful application? We cannot answer this – consult a senior, trustworthy and successful researcher or internal resources at UU. Following instructions is a good start. Remember that the contents of the application is what the reviewers are instructed to assess. Don’t make them guess and don’t annoy them by deviating from the instructions.
