2 Content Update on the activities of the Task Force on future EU censuses Summary of the progress made Outline of the timetable for future work on both the 2021 census data collection and the post-2021 census strategy. Information on the current technical proposals for a limited set of 2021 census data geo-referenced to a 1km² grid

3 The task force 17 NSIs Non-participants can follow via the dedicated CIRCABC interest group So far mostly 2021 round (post 2021 discussions will re-start next week) Simplification and reduction to about 50%-60% of tables. the census topic definitions and classifications programme of cross-tabulations Reduction to 50%-60% of 2011 programme in terms of table number (203  110) Simplification: breakdowns, optional items, no secondary data; removal of doubtful or duplicate tables; minimisation of effort for topics of diminishing relevance 2 migration related tables expanded 1 km² grid data (see next slide) Keeping the geo-detail Slight reduction in dimensionality metadata collection

Via Framework Partnership Agreement (FPA) on Statistical Disclosure Control signed between Eurostat and eight NSIs. Issues related to the main EU census data collection and related to the 1km² grid  non-nested classification Recommendation of work to start early in 2016 FPA work programme to be discussed Dec 2015 meeting

7 Future censuses – 2021 & beyond
Restart of the next week meeting re-examine current and likely future needs for census-type data, as well as user satisfaction with the existing data. presentations on national data needs & on Eurostat user satisfaction surveys.
