2 INTERNSHIPS IN OCEANIA FOR YOUNG PEOPLE FROM THE EDMUND RICE NETWORK, ENGLAND   December 2019 will see the first batch of 3 interns from the UK who will be able to travel to Australia and New Zealand annually in order to work on a variety of outreach and retreat projects around the Oceania region. Applications can be made now.

Who can apply? Edmund Rice Campers Those who have been involved in Social Justice issues and other programs in school Edmund Rice Plus - Alumni Those who have shown potential for leadership in the ER Network and beyond

4 Goals: Build a global sense of Edmund Rice Movement
Provide Social Justice and Spirituality experiences to deepen a sense of mission in ER youth Enhance ER mission and ministry in both England, Australia and New Zealand Share gifts and talents of passionate young English adults with similar youth in Australia and New Zealand

5 When? From December 28th, (approx.) to mid-March each year; arrive into Sydney in time for New Year’s celebrations. Conclude with New Zealand Edmund Rice Student Leaders’ Conference – mid- March. Possibility to extend stay to Papua New Guinea, New York or other projects.

6 What? Jan: Ed Rice Camps in Sydney and Adelaide or Perth.
Conference of all Ed Rice College Captains, Australia & New Zealand. Holiday / tourist time. Feb: Either – Sydney to work at Ed Rice Centre ‘Homebush’ on Human Rights & work with migrant communities Or – Brisbane to join the Camps Ministry Team working on young children’s retreats. Work on ‘Eddie’s Van’ a mobile soup kitchen run by Eddie Ricers. March: Auckland, New Zealand – working in Ed Rice Colleges and at the Ed Rice Student Leaders’ Program.

12 Expectations: Applicants will be expected to be able to provide a very valid ‘why’ they wish to take part in Project Carrick and provide evidence of their work with the Network and / or Social Justice projects in England. Applicants will need to provide a reference from a member of the Network; such as a teacher or Camp Coordinator. If under 21, applicants must provide permission from parents to participate in the program. Perhaps most importantly, applicants will be expected to commit to social justice actions long term following the experience in Oceania – i.e. ‘what next’?

13 Practicalities : Applicants are responsible for booking and paying for return flights to Oceania. Applicants must take out their own travel insurance. Participants will receive $75 Australian Dollars per week. Applicants must adhere to Edmund Rice Camp codes of conduct, health and safety guidelines and complete the police /child protection checks necessary to work with children in Oceania prior to departure. Applicants will be in contact with all places they will stay, host families and brothers before they arrive to get to know one another. Applicants will be interviewed and chosen by the Edmund Rice Office Team.

14 How to Apply: To apply, complete the application form and return to Ann Nichols at the Edmund Rice Office along with two, signed passport-style photos. Application forms will be sent to Camp Leaders, schools and are available to download on the Edmund Rice England website. Interviews will be held in the summer, at a time of mutual convenience.
