1 BELLWORK: April 15th List four ways Germany was punished under the Treaty of Versailles. Which countries were not allowed to participate in the Paris Peace Conference? Why? What type of government do you think the Allied powers want established in Germany? Why? Define totalitarianism. (page 557) THINKER: Make a prediction  How will anger over the Treaty of Versailles lead to the rise of totalitarian governments in Europe?

Your project is due! Make sure you submit it in a way that I can access it! Either turn it in (poster, cartoon, paper) or it to me! If there is a presentation component, you will present this on Wednesday. You will lose 5 points each day it is late. Turn in any late/missing work to their corresponding trays. As you know, post-WWI a provisional government is established in Germany. What is the purpose of a provisional government? Eventually Germany will implement a republic, or a representative-type democracy Unfortunately, this republic becomes ineffective and 14 years after WWI it collapses. This makes way for Hitler and his totalitarian government ….. Nazism

Today, you will read the article “The German Weimar Republic: Why Democracy Failed” and answer the 20 questions on the worksheet. You need to focus on HOW and WHY democracy failed in Germany, as well as, Hitler’s rise to power. These are your notes!!! Do not write on the reading!
