1 Working Group “Real-Driving Emissions of Light-Duty Vehicles” Work Progress – December 2011

2 Objectives (Reminder)
To conduct a technical assessment of the proposed candidate procedures To develop a RDE-LDV procedure complementing the future main type approval cycle To disseminate the know-how regarding the procedures To contribute to legislation drafting (e.g. test protocol) Data evaluation is one of the key points and differs a lot from the US approach (the US-NTE method) Keep in mind that the experiments are run in the same way in the US and in the EU but the data is evaluated in a completely different way (READ) Another important point to keep in mind is that the method is able to deal with difficult cases. The best example is a city bus test, which you CAN evaluate with the EU moving averaging window and NOT with the US-NTE Another example is given on the next slide. 2

5 Excel workbook with ‘RDE cycles’ Data reporting template
1. Project Management Working Documents Work plan addressing objectives, timing and guidelines for the technical activities to be conducted until end of 2011 Preliminary versions (ppt files until July 2011) Current version 5.0 Excel workbook with ‘RDE cycles’ Data reporting template Practical guide for testing vehicle with PEMS [Presented October 2011 > Feedback?] Data evaluation is one of the key points and differs a lot from the US approach (the US-NTE method) Keep in mind that the experiments are run in the same way in the US and in the EU but the data is evaluated in a completely different way (READ) Another important point to keep in mind is that the method is able to deal with difficult cases. The best example is a city bus test, which you CAN evaluate with the EU moving averaging window and NOT with the US-NTE Another example is given on the next slide. 5

6 EMROAD for PEMS data evaluation
1. Project Management Tools EMROAD for PEMS data evaluation Data provided by ACEA to Bertrand for pre-processing Data to be provided to JRC for consolidation of results ACEA Evaluation tool [Presented October 2011 > Feedback?] NEW: Benchmark of ACEA Evaluation tool against EMROAD (JRC December 2011 presentation) ACEA Random Cycle generator [Available January 2012] Data evaluation is one of the key points and differs a lot from the US approach (the US-NTE method) Keep in mind that the experiments are run in the same way in the US and in the EU but the data is evaluated in a completely different way (READ) Another important point to keep in mind is that the method is able to deal with difficult cases. 8 Boundary conditions for the RDE procedure :
3. Working items Boundary conditions for the RDE procedure : Presentation by H. Steven (July 2011) First elements on practical implications (ACEA, BMW, September 2011) Data evaluation is one of the key points and differs a lot from the US approach (the US-NTE method) Keep in mind that the experiments are run in the same way in the US and in the EU but the data is evaluated in a completely different way (READ) Another important point to keep in mind is that the method is able to deal with difficult cases. The best example is a city bus test, which you CAN evaluate with the EU moving averaging window and NOT with the US-NTE Another example is given on the next slide. 8

9 Methodology for random cycle generation :
3. Working items Methodology for random cycle generation : Presentation by JRC (June 2011) Presentation by ACEA (July 2011) Work plan Random cycle generator (ACEA, January 2012) Data evaluation is one of the key points and differs a lot from the US approach (the US-NTE method) Keep in mind that the experiments are run in the same way in the US and in the EU but the data is evaluated in a completely different way (READ) Another important point to keep in mind is that the method is able to deal with difficult cases. The best example is a city bus test, which you CAN evaluate with the EU moving averaging window and NOT with the US-NTE Another example is given on the next slide. 9
