1 Optional Module 6—Scholarly Project

2 Scholarly project module—learning outcomes
Develop a scholarly project in relation to your action plan This module focuses on developing a scholarly project related to your action plan.

3 Evaluation of resilience
Adequacy of most tools questionable (Windle et al, 2011) Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (Connor & Davidson, 2003) Resilience Scale for Adults (Friborg et al, 2005) Brief Resilience Scale (Smith et al, 2008) New tool for higher education context (Turner et al, 2017) There is currently no gold standard for the evaluation of resilience. Windle et al (2011) reviewed 15 resilience measurements. They questioned the conceptual and theoretical adequacy of the majority of the scales. The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, the Resilience Scale for Adults and the Brief Resilience Scale had the best psychometric ratings. It is important to acknowledge that there is a lack of evaluation tools designed for the higher education context. The only one we are aware of is Turner and colleagues’ tool published in the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia’s journal in This is the tool used in the ATN project. If time allows encourage groups to look at the four resilience scales – compare and contrast these.

4 Kirkpatrick program evaluation (revised)
Level Dimensions Measured 1. Reaction Satisfaction, Engagement & Relevance 2. Learning Knowledge, Skills, Attitude, Confidence & Commitment 3. Behaviour Apply what learned 4. Results Targeted outcomes occur The framework that was used to inform evaluation of this program is the one you can see here. Donald Kirkpatrick’s four level program evaluation framework has been popular for more than 30 years (1994). More recently this was revised by Kirkpatrick Partners to add engagement, relevance, confidence and commitment to the earlier version. You might like to consider using this framework to inform the design of your educational research project /scholarship of teaching and learning project.

5 Develop your evaluation / research project
With Kirkpatrick’s framework in mind it is now time to start developing your evaluation / research project. The first step is to develop a potential aim and objectives or research question. Following this is the development of the project design, the methodology and data collection. Ethical considerations should also be included in the early project proposal phase. Can use Module 6 Activity - Planning Your Scholarly Project Handout to guide this process [Before presentation:] Add additional information as desired Photo licensed from iStock

6 Hopes If you are finishing the program at Module 6 then keep this slide in. If you are doing Module 7 then remove this slide from here Revisit hopes—check which were covered today and which will be covered tomorrow/ in the future session(s) Photo licensed from iStock

7 What next? Implement your plan in the forthcoming semester
Review ~ mid-semester Access mentors to support you Engage with your peer coaching group Complete your research project evaluation [Before presentation:] Adjust time frame labels on slide if not delivering the program in a university context. Decide when you will implement your plan Review ~ mid-semester Arrange and utilise mentoring (if available) Arrange and utilise peer coaching

8 What else? [Before presentation:] Add anything else you plan to provide by way of ongoing support to facilitate participants success with leading change(s) that enhance resilience Thank the participants for their engagement in the program. Invite them to complete the post-program evaluation survey (see relevant appendix in the Facilitator Guide) Photo licensed from iStock
