1 Theoretical and Experimental Probability
Unit 5A Probability Theoretical and Experimental Probability

2 Lesson 2: Theoretical and Experimental Probability
Objective: Swbat find and compare theoretical and experimental probability. Do Now:

3 Lesson 2: Theoretical and Experimental Probability
Definitions Theoretical Probability is based on what should happen during an experiment. Experimental Probability is based on what actually occurs during an experiment.

4 Lesson 2: Theoretical and Experimental Probability
Activity: Coin Toss Theoretical Probability: Experimental Probability: Groups will toss a coin 20 times and total the heads and tails and write the probabilities as a fraction and percent. Compare the P(Heads) and P(Tails).

5 Lesson 2: Theoretical and Experimental Probability
Activity: Rolling dice and getting a sum of 9. Theoretical Probability: Experimental Probability: Dice are rolled 20 times. P(sum of 9) Compare the probabilities.

6 Possible sums of a roll of dice
1 2 3 4 5 6

7 Classwork Guided Practice #1 – 3 Independent Practice #1 – 4 Problem Solving Practice #1 - 6

8 Closure Question: What is the difference between theoretical and experimental probability? Exit Ticket Homework: Practice # 1 - 3

9 Exit Ticket What is the theoretical probability of rolling a sum of 10 with dice?
