1 Make Homework Count and Gain Back 20-30 Minutes a Day!
Kate Fehling Heritage High School Math Department Chair August 7, 2013

2 What is Math XL for School?
An on-line program that… Pre-assesses students prior to each unit. Creates individualized homework assignments. Offers help tools to students while completing HW. Provides short videos that overview each section of the unit (particularly helpful to students when absent). Generates assessments that are unique to each student. Records results for student and teacher access. Grades assessments while giving teachers flexibility in adjusting scores.

3 How do I gain access? Review handout to create a teacher account.
Provide students with a handout when it is their turn to register. I have provided the 30-day trial registration code. If you find that this system works for you, you may purchase registrations for your students, or have them purchase them individually.

4 Creating a Course First, create a course as a coordinator.
Go to Course Manager. Create a Course. Type of Course: Coordinator Name of Course: (Your Choice) Choose your book, or a universal course. Determine your settings.

5 Creating Assignments Once your course is created, you may begin creating assignments. Pre-Assessments Quizzes Review Assignments Tests

Individualized plan based on Pre-Assessment Quiz Me - Mastery Quizzes option Help options for each question Completion of assignment (Progress Bar) Checking homework

7 Member Courses Coordinator course is the overarching course.
Member courses link to coordinator course. You can create assessments on the coordinator course, and then have member courses for each section. All assignments in the coordinator course gets distributed to member courses. In addition, assignments specific to a section can be added directly to the member course.

8 Organizing a Class Teach students how to use the system.
Establish rules for completion of assignments. Explain alternatives to on-line completion (printing assignments, alternate assessments, etc.). Check your prior to class to know which concepts to review. Be prepared for extra classroom time! Reserve media center/computer lab time, as needed.
