College Week

2 Overview College Week at Beaverton High School is a week-long event in November that is designed to help high school students identify potential career interests, learn to build resumes, and investigate avenues for pursuing higher education and/ or job training.

3 Event Schedule: Nov. 12-16, 2012 Monday – CIS Activity
Tuesday, Wednesday. – Resume-Building Thursday – FASFA training - evening FASFA workshop for parents Friday – College and Career Fair

11 Monday: SIS Exploration
CIS Introduction and Tutorial (15 mins) CIS Exploration Activity (60 mins) - Reality Check, SKILLS Assessment, Career Interest Profiler, Programs and Training Sort - Worksheet Group Discussion (15 mins) - Student Volunteers Share Results from Worksheet Students identify which presenters they want to speak with on Friday

12 Tuesday: Resume Workshop
Instruction (30 mins) Resume Development (60 mins) - Students use CIS tool to develop personal resume - HW: Finish first draft of resume at home

13 Wednesday: Resumes, cont.
Peer Editing Session (30 mins.) Students Type Final Copy of Resume (30 mins) Student Volunteers Present Resume to Class (20-30 mins.)

14 Thursday: FASFA Tutorials
- School Career Counselor Presents Tutorial at Student Assembly (45-60 mins) -Students return to classes (30 mins) Evening Presentation, Q and A Session for Parents (60-90 mins) - Cost of College, Deadlines, Tips, Info Needed to Apply, Refreshments Counselor will complete mock fasfa process from beginning to end for Parents and students

15 Friday: Career Fair College Representive Tables in Gym
Career Representative Tables in Cafeteria 2-3 hours Students Speak With Presenters - may hand out copies of personal resume

16 Coursework Integration
Follow up: College Essays or Cover Letters Class Credit for Participation in Events Pre-assessment: Begin Discussion of Career Essay Topics - Pick three careers from CIS, explain why each is appealing - Etc.
