1 My Migrant story Year 9 Humanities

2 Recap Previously we have worked on the My Migrant story assessment task Are there any questions about the task or rubric? Is there anything that you would like explained again or in a different way? Do you understand what is required and how you can complete the task?

3 Learning intentions Understand the requirements of the assessment task with regards to the statement of intentions and bibliography Continue your research and investigate your migration history

4 Success criteria Understand the requirements of your bibliography and the structure that this will need to take Have started the statement of intention – thinking about what you are creating and what the purpose of each component is Use ancestry and other tools to investigate your migration history

5 What have you found so far?
Have you found anything interesting? Has anyone conducted or planned interviews? What tools have you used to begin the task? What do you want to investigate moving forward?

6 Statement of intentions
This is a required component of the assessment task Requires you to consider how, what, who, when and why (purpose) How: how will you present the task, what mediums will you use – audio, video, pictures etc. What: what do you need to create the presentation, method/plan to complete the task Who: who are you investigating, will you interview, look at records etc. When: timeframe of task, how long will each section take, plan to ensure you complete the task on time Purpose/why: what do you want people to take from your project, why are you investigating the particular individual/group that you have chosen

7 Bibliography You are required to do some research to complete the task
If you use work from another source you must correctly ‘cite’ and reference where you found the information you are using The sheet has details about what you need to find when using a source, dates, names, link/URL etc. Ensure that you keep a record as you progress, don’t leave it to the last minute Most importantly do not plagiarise – using other peoples work without referencing where you received it This is good practice for VCE and university where plagiarism can result in serious penalties

8 Ancestry library We will do a trial run through ancestry library using the provided sheet as a guide Once we finish the trial run, try and use the site for yourself If you have already used the site, try searching for other members of you family or try some other tools that you know of

9 Reflection Begin your statement of intentions or write down a plan listing what you are going to do moving forward You do not need to complete the statement of intentions at this point, but making a start is useful in guiding your work and research These will be checked before you can leave Once you have had your statement or plan checked, wait quietly for the bell and then you may leave
