1 Warwickshire Road Safety
To be an outstanding provider of road safety education and training and help people through a lifetime of safer journeys Evolved through many changes in recent years as in 2014 faced having the entire budget removed as the Council sought to make 92m in savings. Strong belief that the authority should not stop providing road safety education, despite budget reductions it has a positive impact on reducing casualties. A different approach and sustainable way to continue had to be found. Started by focusing on core vision and values which are: to be an outstanding provider of road safety education and training and help people through a lifetime of safer journeys; to reduce the number of casualties on Warwickshire’s roads; to nurture real partnerships that really make a difference because road safety is everyone's responsibility; to develop programmes that achieve behavioural change

2 How it Works Redesign of school road safety education packages.
Creation of a ‘product’ to attract sponsorship and support. Maximising planning gain for non engineering activities. Evaluation and Evolution. Focus on Quality. In real terms: Redesigned programmes and resources into a recognisable product that has improved its appeal and attracted businesses such as Jaguar Land Rover, Ocado and TNT to sponsor road safety activities in their local communities. Greatest success achieved when seeking support for local communities, not county wide programmes. Succeeded in securing funds from residential developers via S106 agreements, to help fund road safety and sustainable travel programmes. Embedded behavioural change techniques and moved away from traditional delivery methods in all interventions and use feedback from users and engage with external expertise to help constantly evaluate to ensure that the product evolves, is sustainable, and remains attractive in the long term. Focus on delivering high quality, evaluated programmes that encourages safer road users. Not afraid to explore different ways of working , take risks and make changes to enable this.

3 Primary & Secondary Schools
Nationally many interventions target young drivers from 17 to 25 year olds as that is where the most concerning casualties numbers lie. The priority over the last two years has been the redevelopment of primary and secondary school road safety education programme as this age group are the building blocks for the future. This gives 17 years worth of opportunities to influence children and young people so by the time they get on their motorbike or behind the wheel, they will have developed more responsible attitudes to risk and know how to stay safer on our roads. The Warwickshire Road Safety Club pulls together the core educational activities for primary aged children. Having a club has inspired the children, teachers and parents to achieve certain skills in each year group and makes them feel part of a holistic road safety community. Revamped Driving Ambitions which is our secondary school programme. Again this is a whole school approach, involving communities and using innovation such as Virtually Reality. Both programmes allow schools, parents, communities and those sponsoring activities to support a specific and identifiable product rather than a scattergun of different interventions

4 Looking to the Future Programmes are generating a lot of local and national interest and sponsorship and support is allowing reinvestment in road safety education for other key road users, such as the older driver. Despite budget reductions, Warwickshire has achieved the honour of being the most improved authority in road safety, and in particular road safety education. Revaluating ways of working has resulted in a range of positive changes are that are only just being recognised with even greater positive changes yet to come. Continuing with the aim in to have achieved the vision of delivering road safety education from cradle to grave in determination to continue to help people through a lifetime of safer journeys.
