1 Species invade Lives are affected Its that simple
Invasive species Species invade Lives are affected Its that simple

2 The hemlock wooly adelgid
This is and invasive tree that made its way to New York! This species came from japan (surprise surprise) It’s a small insect that causes big problems After an accidental shipment to the western U.S but was first identified in Richmond VA It attacks native hemlocks and they insert their long mouthparts and begin feeding on the tree's stored starches and leaves all the uses of hemlock unusable costing the money of how much is sold Hemlocks are commonly damaged in Carolina hemlocks Predators of the insect have been released in to the catskill mountains with mixed results

3 Infected parts The Oak Wilt The oak wilt well…. Wilts Oaks by blocking their roots access to nutrients which makes leaves fall off The origin of the Oak Wilt is unknown but was first discovered in Wisconson and even spread to Texas and now to New York It has killed tens of thousands of oaks and less pak trees and less oak shipments= less $ To prevent it areas have been put in quarantine making sure wood with them in it cannot be spread further Brown colorations of leaves and the abundance of leaves falling are just some of the symtoms

4 Sirex woodwasp This insect native to Europe and Asia and is one of the top ten worst invasive species! It came from a nonnative pine plantation This pest destroys pine forests and has entered a forest in Oswego county NY The woodwasp injects a toxic mucus into pine trees and it can quickly kill trees Because they are so difficult to detect they are difficult to get rid of and red pine in Scotland is not able to be exported All we can do for now is call the DEC if we see them

5 Eurasian boar Surprisingly the Eurasian Boar in from… Europe and Asia
This boar has been purposely brought here for a food source and now poses a threat to crops and live stock This makes the selling of livestock and crops difficult But why is it so hard not to get rid of them you may ask It is illegal to possess, sell, distribute, trade, or transport Eurasian boars or their hybrids. It is illegal to import, breed, or release Eurasian boars or their hybrids. It is illegal to hunt, trap, or take Eurasian boars or their hybrids. What can you do again report them to the DEC and remain vigilant Native to ny

6 Hogweed This plant i have had personal teachings about in Alaska it can cause 3rd degree burns and can severely injure you It came from asia and has now spread even to New York The Hogweed has been brought over here assumingly by accident Its biggest danger is to humans as to contact in to its skin In order to control it people have been trying to spread the word and carefully cut it down Native to ny

7 Emerald Ash Borer The ash borer traveled through lumber and are native to china and are native to ny it has decrease 78% of ash trees in ny Its effects on economy is that it cannot cure the dutch elm disease and all the trees are getting destroyed due to them There are not many methods of controls besides report them to the DEC and some different pesticides are being patented

8 kudzu It was introduced as a conservation plant it arrived here because we thought it was a good ornamental plant It quickly swallows up entire homes as it grows rapidly It has made a lot of wood that it has grown over not able to be exported Methods of control are to cut it off and BURN IT!!!

9 Gypsy moth Gypsy moths were accidently brought here from france in silk and now are in new York These moths eat leaves from deciduous trees and it has destroyed many trees in all types of deciduous forests Its effect is much like many moths it hurts the environment when its populations rise and fall and the production of wood is stopped When their populations are lower during catepillars season you can kill them while stepping on them

10 Viburnum Leaf Beetle Viburnum Leaf Beetle
This one was actually discovered in new york Adults often resting on the upper surfaces of the leaves and if disturbed they readily drop or fly which Is what destroys trees They destroy trees the same way the gypsy moths do In order to control them different products have been made to make them extinct

11 Asian long horned beetle
They came from asia especially china and koreia They were accidently brought over in lumber insect that feeds on a variety of hardwoods including maple, birch, elm, ash, poplar, horsechestnut, and willow They attack maple trees and will eventually completely get rid of maple syrup They have different types of insecticides to get rid of them and you can also call the DEC if you want to learn any more
