2 Gerunds A gerund is the –ing form of a verb and is used as a noun.
Winning the lottery surprised them. Running may be good for your heart.

3 Gerunds cont. Like nouns, gerunds are modified by possessive forms of nouns and pronouns. Donald’s winning the lottery surprised them. His winning the lottery surprised them.
