2 What is Involuntary Separation Pay?
Discharged, or released from active duty prior to the completion of stipulated period of active service Discharged, or released from active duty and includes all forms of separation under conditions wherein the individual is released from active duty at any time prior to the completion of a stipulated period of active service or tour of active duty and not at his or her own request, or denied re-enlistement or extension on active duty

3 Eligibility Criteria Qualified for retention Officer and Enlisted Must be involuntary Must have completed 6 years of active duty but less that 20 prior to separation Has entered into a written agreement to serve in the Ready Reserve for a period of not less than 3 years

4 Two Common Reasons for Separation
Reduction in Forces actions High Year Tenure In most cases, you must agree to serve in the Ready Reserve or comparable reserve component for three years.  If the service member has an existing reserve obligation, they must serve an additional three years after their existing obligation.

5 How to Calculate Full and Half Separation Pay
Full Separation Pay: Half Separation Pay: one-half the amount computed for full separation pay Involuntary separation pay is based upon the service member's base pay at the time of separation and their years and months of service. Full separation pay is calculated by multiplying: Full separation pay: 10% of the product of the member’s years of active military service and twelve times the monthly basic pay to which the member was entitled at the time of discharge or release from active duty

6 Separations Limited to Half Sep Pay
