1. ANIMAL IMAGERY
Much of Steinbeck's description contains visual images of animals. For example, he refers to Lennie's walk as "dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws." The purpose of this line is to identify Lennie's size and shape and to suggest that Lennie is slow- witted. Analyze the following images, and express in a few lines the purpose of each phrase.
