Agent: Moving Water Moving water is the major agent of erosion that has shaped Earth’s land surface (p. 73) Runoff is water that moves across Earth’s surface (p. 73) If you think about it, it is part of the rock cycle!

There are 5 main factors that affect how much runoff there is in an area. 1. The amount of rain 4. Shape of the land: steep or flat 2. The amount of plants and vegetation 3. The type of soil 5. How people use the land: parking lot or park

Runoff = erosion (usually)
Rivers: large streams! Types of water channels Gully: a large groove Streams: a channel where water is flowing downward Rills: the running water creates little grooves in the soil
