3 Paperwork What’s in the packet?
A packet of all Confirmation paperwork is available to print online (along with a copy of this presentation) What’s in the packet? Checklist Choosing a sponsor Choosing a Name Service – approval and report form Letter to the Bishop

4 Choosing a Sponsor Must be a member of the Catholic Church who is fully initiated by Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist Must be a mature person at least sixteen years old Be in good standing with the Church Be willing to share the faith with you And be an example of good Christian living Not a parent Must get a recommendation letter from their parish attesting to the above requirements. Only one person

5 Choosing a Christian Name
Choose a Saint that is the patron Saint of an interest you have Choose a Saint whose life you find inspiration in Make sure you know about your saint. The bishop may ask about the saint or why that saint’s name was chosen or what about that saint was of interest or was relatable. Where to look for names Saints books are available to use in our office Websites – Remember that many names are a derivative of another name…for example Michelle from Michael

6 Service Project – Overview and Directions ALWAYS GET PREAPPROVAL – see the preapproval form There are 2 parts to the Service requirements 1. Parish Service – work 1 shift at the Summer Fest- preapproval not needed for this volunteer experience 2. Works of Mercy Service – experience of at least a few hours -WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE SAFETY OF CANDIDATES AT THE PLACES THEY CHOOSE TO DO SERVICE. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT A PARENT STAYS WITH THEM WHILE VOLUNTEERING.

7 Corporal Works of Mercy

8 Sign up Genius Service arranged through our SJV Youth Ministry will be listed on Click on the Faith Formation tab then scroll down to SERVICE to see what opportunities are open Youth ministry service opportunities still require preapproval Be sure to get the hours tracking form signed and complete the reflection to turn in with your packet

9 Letters to the bishop Each candidate (not parent!) writes a handwritten letter to the bishop requesting to be confirmed. Candidates are given guidance as to what needs to be included in the letter. These instructions will print out with the Confirmation packet. Once we have all the letters they are reviewed by myself and Fr. Mark and then are passed on to the Chancery. These letters are to be handwritten on a nice sheet of 8 ½” x 11”paper.

10 What is the date for Confirmation?
Our date is set by the chancery. Our class size is now small enough we will have just one Mass. They have many parishes to schedule for Confirmations so this takes time. We often do not receive our dates until August or even the beginning of September of It could be earlier or it could be later. When we know the date I will immediately send out an with the information to you. Please do not call the office for the date. If we haven’t sent the , we do not have it yet. Once the date is sent it will be put on the website.
