The student applies mathematical process standards to develop and understanding of addition and subtraction situations in order to solve problems. Essential Question: How do we solve subtraction problems to real world problems using concrete objects? Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Lesson Plan Whole group solve subtraction problems on white board. Partners flip playing cards over to solve subtraction problems.(Solve on white boards Roll It, Solve It, Cover It! Game with partners Explain word problems and show examples. Have partners come up with a word problem. Whole groups solve the words problems. Color by code subtraction Peep page. Math Stations Vocabulary subtraction minus Equals Problem Difference Higher order questions/ELLs Discuss with your partner how to subtract 3-2. How would you orally demonstrate subtraction? Write using vocabulary words: problem ,subtract, equal. Explain what the problem is with this statement? When put two groups together, I am subtracting. Use formal/informal English to discuss what your favorite way to subtract is. Assessment Strategy Students will participate in number recognition and writing activities with their partners. Students will participate in math station games that review previously taught skills.
