2 The Protestant Reformation was a period, during the 1500s, when the power of the Catholic Church in Europe was weakened.

4 The Renaissance helped influence the Reformation by encouraging people to have a questioning attitude.

6 The Reformation was sparked by German monk Martin Luther, who openly objected to practices of the Catholic Church.

7 In 1517, Luther posted his Ninety-five Theses, calling for reforms within the Catholic Church.

8 Johann Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press helped spread Luther’s ideas throughout Europe.

9 As a result, more people began to question the Catholic Church, weakening its power.
