3 The Welcome Centre often advertises for interns with good English skills; you can also contact them on your own initiative: bielefeld.de/International/Scientists

4 ViSiB - Association to support international students in Bielefeld primarily seeks German families who are interested in an intercultural exchange with foreign students as hosts for international students, but this might be an option for students who live at home, for example. There are also opportunities for students to volunteer to help ViSiB with its work:

5 The Interkontakt-Programm mentoring programme run by the Welcome Centre for international/visiting scholars and researchers and their families is interested in volunteers to support international postgraduates, researchers and academics in Bielefeld: more information at bielefeld.de/International/Scientists/mentoring_progr am.html (see the dropdown box “Call for Volunteers”): the Welcome Centre at

See and watch out for s recruiting new PAL teamers

12 Your tasks as a PAL-teamer:

13 Seminars that are assigned to the module 23-ANG-IntH Internationalisierung at home and incorporate a project (an example was (Brenzel) The undiscovered masterpiece - Shakespeare's Cymbeline (WiSe 2016/2017) but such seminars are not offered on a regular basis.

14 …In your home environment but outside the university:
With refugees: The Welcome Centre provides this “Information on volunteer opportunities to support refugees in Germany”: ehrenamtliche.html

15 With firms, media organisations, NGOs, etc
With firms, media organisations, NGOs, etc. where the main working language is English. A fairly humble example is doing telephone interviews in English. Finding such jobs requires luck, perseverance or contacts, but can be connected to interests. Examples: mentor to American players in a local American Football team a nanny for an American family translations from German to English for a gaming website

16 3) can, counter-intuitively, be done abroad in environments where the main language is English/ you are obliged to use English as a lingua franca. You might thus consider: Voluntary work, jobs, work-and-travel, internships etc. abroad, see for example

17 Working with a commercial language holiday provider as a counsellor on (English) language holidays for children and teenagers or as a team member for other kinds of organised international youth holidays abroad, where you would have to use English to communicate

18 Internships abroad, see for example
